We stayed with some nuns who were absolutely delightful, they were very welcoming and there were some stunning wood carvings on the wall of the dormitory of the faces of Mary and Jesus. Around 6 in the evening two of the nuns pulled up a djembe and a guitar, passed around some song sheets and […]

Another beautiful day on the maseta, we passed through Castrojeriz which was said to have been founded by Julius Caesar. Just after we left the town we climbed a small hill that had an excellent view of the plains, I couldn’t help but imagine that Caesar had once rode the same road and what it […]

Today we met a canadian couple who were walking the camino with their 10 year old daughter. She had a miniature staff and pack and was doing quite well. They didn’t walk far each day and they had a full day of rest once a week - they had taken a couple of days off […]

We stayed with some nuns in an old stone abbey - it was a hot day and there was […]

We were in pretty good shape at the end of the day and had a lovely nap in the sunshine by the river outside the Auberge. There were kids everywhere and at 5pm the playgrounds were packed and the overflow kids were playing on the grass by the river. There were a couple of […]

Stayed at a beautiful auberge run by volunteers, 3 euros for the night and very welcoming.
The cathedral in town didn’t sell candles like most of the other churches we had seen, instead it had coin operated candle machines which would light a candle like light bulb. It also had coin operated lighting for the side […]

Day 36 - 04/06/07
A reasonably long day but we were feeling pretty good at the 30k mark (about 6 in the evening) and it looked like there were some rain clouds heading our way so we decided to start moving at scouts pace. This involved walking for 100 steps, running for a 100 steps and […]
